Abstract
To enhance the photo-electrochemical (PEC) water splitting efficiency of BiVO4-based photoanode, we designed phase-junction configurations of monoclinic scheelite (MS), tetragonal scheelite (TS) and tetragonal zircon (TZ) phases of BiVO4. With aid of the phase-junctions, we were able to achieve drastic improvements of the PEC performance. We successfully confirmed using observed X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Raman spectra that the target films were well fabricated. In addition, we could demonstrate using a time-resolved spectroscopic technique and a photo-electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (PEIS) that the enhanced water splitting efficiency could be attributed to the improvement of the charge separation efficiency.
