Abstract

We study the transmission and reflection of phonons incident on a superlattice at an oblique angle. For frequencies in the vicinity of an anti-crossing frequency in the superlattice phonon dispersion relation we find that the wave energy oscillates back and forth between the different polarizations as the wave propagates through the superlattice. These oscillations are analogous to the Pendellösung effect for electrons and X-rays.
