Abstract

Recent studies have shown that, in addition to wide optical applications, PbS Colloidal Quantum Dots have the potential of being a gas sensing material for some gas targets, such as methane (CH4). Here, in this paper, we show how the introduction of an appropriate amount of Ag nanoparticles enhances the methane gas sensing characteristics of PbS nanocrystals. Electrical conductivity, sensor response, response linearity, and response speed are studied as a function of Ag concentration (0%, 1.98%, 5%, and 8.25%). The silver incorporation in its optimum amount is found to improve the response, the linearity, and the speed of the sensor. The best modifications were achieved for the sensor with 1.98% Ag.
