Abstract

The research work aims to provide some insight about the environmental friendly CeO2 NPs coating on Mild steel plate for improving corrosion inhibition in marine environment. CeO2 coating on MS plate was prepared by spin coating technique. The morphology, chemical composition, and crystalline nature of the prepared CeO2NPs were studied using a scanning electronic microscope (SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy with elemental mapping technique (EDS), X- ray diffraction (XRD), and Raman spectroscopy analysis. The corrosion resistance of the coatings in artificial seawater is evaluated using electrochemical methods such as Tafel polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. CeO2 NPs by spin coating technique have produce more uniform and compact structure and present a better corrosion protection of MS in artificial seawater. The coatings were found to be stable, and the number of coatings of CeO2 NPs significantly improved the microstructural properties, hardness behaviour, and corrosion inhibition of MS plates in a marine setting. Overall, the benefits of spin coating CeO2 NPs on MS plates are demonstrated clearly.
