Abstract
ABSTRACT The directional properties of a dipole antenna are studied by placing it in the vicinity of a complex conjugate cylinder. An exact formal solution for the fields is obtained via the differential equation approach. The far field approximation is obtained by asymptotic analysis. The variation of radiation patterns with the imaginary part of permittivity and/or permeability is observed and the results are compared with the lossless dielectric. It is observed that the directivity of the antenna is enhanced in the presence of the cylinder.
