Abstract

This article investigates the method that captures and fixes CO2 using ionic liquid-emulsion liquid membrane (IL-ELM). IL-ELM was prepared and used to absorb CO2. Experimental results indicate that IL-ELM enhances the rate of CO2 mass transfer and increases the amount of CO2 absorption. Meanwhile, CaCO3 fine particles are synthesized in the internal phase of IL-ELM due to the presence of Ca(OH)2 solvent. Physicochemical coupling facilitating mass transfer mechanism is proposed in order to explain the enhancement mechanism by IL-ELM. The effect of operating parameters on the absorption rate was investigated, and results agree well with the prediction proposed by physicochemical coupling facilitating mass transfer mechanism.
