Abstract

Wide band microstrip antennas have been implemented by using technique of multi-resonator design in which 2nd resonance is added in terms of parasitic patch or it is introduced by the slot. In this article, design of wide band E-shape equilateral triangular microstrip antenna using its gap-coupling with parasitic sectoral patches is presented. The wider bandwidth is the result of coupling between TM 10 , TM 11 modes on triangular patch and TM 10 mode on sectoral patches. Proposed design gives bandwidth of above 740 MHz (>50%) and exhibits broadside radiation having peak gain of larger than 8 dBi. The bandwidth obtained is larger than that given by equivalent triangular and rectangular patch and their slot cut variations. With above antenna characteristics, antenna design based upon similar concept can be useful in mobile applications in 900 and 1800 MHz frequency spectrum.
