Abstract
Propagation delay asymmetry is one of the biggest factors affecting the performance of clock synchronization. For an industrial Ethernet system that implements communication in pure hardware, almost all the asymmetries are caused by hardware factors. In this letter, we analyze the hardware factors for the asymmetry of 100Base-Tx real-time Ethernet system. Then, a low-cost method to mitigate the asymmetry is proposed. The effectiveness of the method will be evaluated by experiments on real-world devices.
