Abstract
Conventional air traffic control (ATC) displays are simple 2D overhead views using symbols and text to represent aircraft and their altitudes. To improve accuracy and timeliness of predicting aircraft collisions, several alternate 2D and 3D ATC displays involving multiple views and stereo perspective graphics were designed. Results from a series of experiments involving scenarios with varying numbers of aircraft indicate that a 2D graphical display with multiple views presents the information more effectively than the 3D displays or the conventional 2D display.
