Abstract
A high-current-density relativistic electron beam is extracted through a thin anode window from the pinch region of a diode. An externally applied azimuthal magnetic field forces the electrons to make multiple passes through the anode window or through adjacent metal or insulator foils, thus causing enhanced energy deposition and x-ray emission. Enhancement factors of 2 to 4 have been observed.
