Abstract
Narrowband-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) is a technology to implement an IoT network using the cellular communication system. To cover wide area, NB-IoT provides Coverage Level (CL), subcarrier spacing, and multi-tone transmission. The existing random access method only considers the CL during its process. In this paper, we enhance the existing random access scheme by applying subcarrier spacing and multi-tone transmission. During the random access, an NB-IoT device adapts the subcarrier spacing and multi-tone transmission configuration within the CL when contention resolution failure is detected. We discuss the performance enhancement of the proposed enhanced random access scheme in terms of delay and power consumption of NB-IoT devices.
