Abstract

Employment of Pd, as an active surface for SERS spectroscopy, however attractive from the point of view of both catalytic activity and biocompatibility, is hindered by dialectic properties of Pd, which in contrast to Ag, Au and Cu, does not provide a sharp plasmon resonance in the visible region [1]. Due to the presence of Ag cores, bimetallic (Ag)Pd colloids are expected to provide a higher surface enhancement upon 514.5 nm excitation, than the Pd colloids themselves. In this contribution, the possibilities to employ Pd and bimetallic (Ag)Pd colloids as active surface for SERS spectroscopy of biologically important molecules are explored.
