Abstract

Enhanced Raman scattering has been observed from the hexacyanoferrate (II) and (III) ions adsorbed on Ag electrode surfaces. In the former case, five vibrational modes in the low-frequency range (214, 373, 423, 494 and 560 cm −1) and four in the nitrile-stretching region (2026, 2067, 2082 and 2122 cm −1) have been observed. The results indicate that the hexacyanoferrate (II) ions are coordinated with the metal via CN bridges which lower the site symmetry of the adsorbed state, inducing SERS vibrational modes which are Raman forbidden in the bulk phase
