Abstract

Objective: Topropose an optimal technique to enhance quality of power in autonomous Microgrid System (MGS) by regulating flow of active and reactive power in the grid-connected mode of MGS. The MGS based on multiple Distributed Generation (DG) connected with 120 kV power grid. Methods/Statistical Analysis: The MGS is first simulated with stationary PI controller based controller which is not optimal during sudden changes in the system operating condition. To achieve an optimal operation of MGS, Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) has been implemented to optimize the MGS parameters and enhance the quality of power supplied by MGS. Findings: From the obtained results, it was observed that MGS supplied an optimum power to utility system, by maintaining a sinusoidal voltage and current waveform with minimum harmonic distortions. The proposed controller performs intelligently while sharing the load power between MGS and utility system. Applications/Improvements: Improving power quality will save consumer devices from overheating, this will enhance the performance of consumer devices and increase their lifespan. Further, the power distribution system will be reliable and dynamic performance can be achieved.
