Abstract

The martensitic phase transformation of nearly β titanium during deformation facilitates the increase and stabilization of strain hardening rate leading to excellent formability. In this work, a nearly β titanium (Ti-4Al-5Mo-5V-5Cr-1Nb %) was designed and exhibited a high yield stress (~760 MPa), a well rate of strain hardening (~950 MPa) up to 40% true strain. Microstructure characterization of the samples after deformation revealed that the excellent mechanical properties were induced by martensitic phase transformation without twinning.
