Abstract

The mechanical properties of bamboo fiber composites depend on the interfacial strength between fiber and high-density polyethylene (HDPE) matrix. Different poly (amido amine) (PAMAM) dendrimers were grafted onto bamboo fiber to improve the interfacial strength of the resulting composites. The surface morphology of the resulting materials was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscope. Surface characteristic the bamboo fiber surface were examined by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR). The characterization results revealed that PAMAM were chemically grafted onto the surface of bamboo fiber.
