Abstract

AbstractThis paper presented a facile and effective way to modify copoly(phthalazinone ether sulfone ketone) (PPBESK) resin with SiC nanowires (SiC NWs) to improve the mechanical and thermal properties of CF/PPBESK composites. The results showed that linear SiC NWs with a diameter of about 3 μm and length of about 100 μm were uniformly incorporated into the composite, which greatly enhanced the toughness of the PPBESK resin and the interfacial performance between the CF and PPBESK. Compared with the untreated composites, the ILSS, compressive strength, flexural strength, and through‐thickness thermal conductivity of the SiC NWs treated composites increased by 12.3%, 31.7%, 15.0%, and 40.7%, respectively. In addition, the thermal effusivity of SiC NWs treated composites was also ameliorated. These results will provide a feasible approach for the fabrication of structurally functionally integrated composites.
