Abstract

Ca0.5Sr0.5Zr4P6O24 ceramics added with different amount (0–10 wt%) of ZrP2O7 addition were successfully prepared and characterized, to determine the effects of ZrP2O7 addition on the structure, mechanical and thermal expansion properties of Ca0.5Sr0.5Zr4P6O24 ceramics. X-ray diffraction results show that Ca0.5Sr0.5Zr4P6O24 and ZrP2O7 can coexist in a sintered body without any other phases. The addition of ZrP2O7 can effectively improve the flexural strength and Vickers hardness relative to pure Ca0.5Sr0.5Zr4P6O24 ceramics. Moreover, a low thermal expansion coefficient of 1.3 × 10−6/°C is observed for the ceramics. Considering the low thermal expansion and excellent mechanical properties, Ca0.5Sr0.5Zr4P6O24 ceramics added with ZrP2O7 can be a promising low thermal expansion material.
