Abstract
In this work, the effect of the addition of oxygen on the plasticity of a Zr60Cu25Al15 bulk metallic glass (BMG) was discussed. It has been shown that the plasticity of Zr60Cu25Al15 BMG can be enhanced through the addition of 0.25% of O. The glass forming ability and plasticity will deteriorate with an addition of 0.5% and 0.75% of O. The underlying mechanism of the improved plasticity has been clarified as a heterogeneous Cu-rich amorphous phase and the decrease of plasticity is caused by partial crystallization when there is an excess addition of O.
