Abstract

Water isotopologues’ photofragmentation is experimentally studied under fs laser pulsed irradiation in the range 890 ≤ λ ≤ 2050 nm. Dications’ dissociation channels branching ratio is found to be dependent on the laser’s wavelength. The H2+ and D2+ formation probability was increased when excitation of overtones and combination bands of symmetric stretch and bend vibrational modes was involved. The abundance of H2+ and D2+ production is found to enhance up to three and eight times respectively as compared to that previously reported. This enhancement is conceivable by means of the coupled electronic and nuclear motion in the presence of an optical field.
