Abstract

LiCoO2 is an important cathode material in lithium-ion batteries, but its cycling performances at a high cut-off voltage such as 4.5 V still need improving. In this research, LiF additive is used to modify LiCoO2 materials to improve the overall performances at the cut-off voltage of 4.5 V. Electrochemical tests prove that the cycling and rate performances are greatly improved after the addition of LiF. The self-discharge behavior tests show that the introduction of LiF additive helps to mitigate the side reactions between the electrode and electrolyte. These results indicates using LiF additive may be a simple and efficient method to optimize the electrochemical performances of LiCoO2 cathode.
