Abstract
We demonstrated the doping effects of titanium silicon oxide (TiSiO4) nanoparticles (NPs) on the characteristics of liquid crystal (LC) system. Simply by adding TiSiO4 to the LC medium, the electro-optical (EO) characteristics of LC cells can be improved. The EO characteristics were improved by increasing the doping concentration. However, it was confirmed that if the doping concentration was too high, the EO characteristics would be deteriorated due to interference with the LC behavior. In addition, TiSiO4 NPs dispersed in the LC mixture captured impurity ions and exhibited hysteresis-free voltage-transmittance (V–T) characteristics. The TiSiO4 NPs doped LC cells also showed higher thermal stability than a pristine LC cell. These results suggest that TiSiO4 NPs doped into an LC system could benefit not only the display industry but also other industrial fields requiring high-performance EO characteristics.
