Abstract

Corrosion is a common occurrence in the practical application of steel, especially in marine environments accompanied by aggressive chlorides. In this paper, in situ grown Mg/Al-CO32− layered double hydroxide (LDH) films were first proposed and directly synthesized on Q235 steel substrate to enhance the corrosion resistance of steel under 3.5 wt% NaCl solution and simulated concrete pore solution with chlorides for potential application in concrete environment. The materials characterization presents that the proposed Mg/Al-CO32− LDH film was successfully prepared and grown on the steel substrate. The electrochemical and morphology results reveal that the steel with Mg/Al-CO32− LDH film has good anticorrosion performance and long-term corrosion protection effect.
