Abstract

The converse magnetoelectric effect (CME) in a composite of Pb(Zr,Ti)O3-bimorph/Metglas laminate has been investigated. The experimental results demonstrate that the bimorph/Metglas laminated composite has an enhanced CME effect compared to that of a unimorph/Metglas one at low frequency and the electromechanical resonance regions. At low frequency of 500Hz and under an extremely low bias magnetic field of 3.2Oe, the bimorph/Metglas laminated composite exhibits a high CME coefficient of 3.3G/V, which is about 3 times that of the unimorph/Metglas one. Moreover, the bimorph/Metglas composite has an extra-low bending mode resonance frequency of 2.84kHz and a giant resonance CME coefficient of 85G/V. The enhanced CME properties of the bimorph/Metglas laminated composite are the results of the optimal structure design and the superior performance of the component materials. This study expands the design methods of two-phase piezoelectric/piezomagnetic CME composites and devices.
