Abstract

Abstract An exposed node problem in a network is observed since the beginning of the decentralization of networks. Even though this problem is consistent from a long time, a little-known research is noticed to address this problem. Consequently, it is important to develop monitoring systems that are responsible for identifying and analyzing faulty nodes and packet loss to prevent future transmission delays. In this paper, we propose a scheme named Enhanced Cloud ACKnowledgement Scheme (ECACKS) to identify faulty nodes and to provide the information necessary for a given node to decide on forwarding a data packet. To demonstrate the visibility of our approach, we utilized OMNET++ as a simulation tool and the cloud as a monitoring tool. The results of our performed simulations suggest that this scheme is feasible to manipulate nodes and to protect the network from attackers while taking better decision against faulty nodes.
