Abstract

A simple method to control the light transmission from a photonic crystal waveguide (PCW) is proposed. The self-collimation (SC) effect in PC is utilized to depress the diffractive behavior of the light beam emitting out from the PCW. The finite difference in time domain (FDTD) simulation results show that choosing appropriate self-collimation frequency and the space between the PCW and the SC-PC can achieve a very good collimating beam in the outgoing side.
