Abstract
This article focuses on the Soviet psychologist and founder of Russian neuropsychology, Alexander Romanovich Luria, and his contribution to the development of neuroscience globally. The article be gins with a short biography, with particular focus on the formation of Luria’s theoretical views. Key aspects of theory concerning the structural and functional organization of the brain are then discussed, including Luria’s ideas on the three principal functional units and the interaction between them. In conclusion, Luria’s scientific ideas are compared to developments in contemporary research.
