Summary

Introduction

Preservation is “to protect something from danger and to make certain of external effects”, while in glossary of urban sciences terms, preservation is described as “To assure the cultural assets (monuments, natural site areas etc.)with historical and architectural value placed at some urban regions among destructive, offensive and harmful activities in order to transfer them to future generations” (Keleş, 1998). We can qualify Ankara Hamamönü example, handled in the content of study, as preservation-oriented urban transformation rather than urban preservation. Urban transformation and urban preservation are being perceived as contrary terms. Urban preservation is only a type of intervention of urban transformation
