Abstract

In recent years, energy development in Arctic region was focused under the circumstance of rapid growth of Arctic markets. From the present study, STX shipbuilding Company investigated the Design concept for arctic LNGC with excellent ice breaking performance based on the ice condition in KARA Sea also evaluate the seakeeping/manoeuvring performance. In order to achieve the efficient ice breaking performance, well known concepts as Double Acting System (DAT) is used with extreme ice breaking bow. Normally, the extreme ice breaking bow is good at ice breaking but there are drawbacks in the open water condition as slamming impact. In this study, we have evaluate the ship motion including the slamming impact for the extreme ice breaking bow based on the North sea condition by one of code which is developing with Seoul National University in KOREA. The major objectives of the study are to suggest sufficient Arctic LNGC based on the current energy development in arctic region which are results from cooperation investigation between STX shipbuilding (hereafter STX) and Aker Arctic Technology Inc.(hereafter AARC).
