Abstract

In this study the damaging effects of environmental conditions on ancient bricks that have survived from the time of the Seljuk Empire were investigated. A systematic chemical examination of the weathered bricks and their crusts from the Aksinne small mosque in Konya, Turkey, was performed on collected samples, both in situ and in a laboratory. This study shows that ancient bricks in different colors are suitable materials to use to protect against the damaging effects of environmental conditions. Various masonry bricks belonging to different historical eras could be analyzed for their degrees of alteration from various environmental conditions.   Key words: Konya historical buildings, ancient Seljuk brick, brick weathering, brick durability, damaging effects, chemical attack. &nbsp
