Abstract

In India, the legalities of computer software are often poorly understood by the programmers, authors, and the software industry. Indian software industry, being one of the top most foreign exchange earners, needs to take a close look and safeguard its market and intellect of its many programmers since computer database is a new type of intellectual property of growing importance in today’s world. The Indian software industry has to change its orientation and stress the protection of intellectual property. Only by doing so, there will be a good scope for original product development. The article discusses the practical and legal methods of protecting computer databases from unauthorised copying and use, and areas of trade secrecy and non-disclosure. DOI: 10.14429/djlit.28.5.215
