Abstract
AbstractIt has been repeatedly noted in the literature that most world Englishes research focuses on Outer Circle countries, while studies on Expanding Circle countries, especially those in South America, Europe, and the Middle East, have been few and far between. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to provide a sociolinguistic profile of English in Turkey, thereby contributing to the growing literature on Expanding Circle countries. In this sociolinguistic profile, following a brief description of the country, I present the users and uses of English in the Turkish context, as well as discuss the attitudes of Turkish language learners towards English.
