Abstract

The year 1982 was one of challenge for the SMPTE, providing new opportunities for the national and international standards-development communities. Rapidly emerging technologies with their greatly advanced capabilities of capturing and generating images made it increasingly difficult to delineate specific roles for motion pictures (film) and television (electronics). In 1982, the need was established for sophisticated hybrid applications to amalgamate the disciplines of motion pictures and television into a single concept of “imagery.”
