Abstract

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of the interface between the plasma activated and the gold coated PEEK on adhesion and spreading of mouse fibroblasts (L929). Surface properties of pristine and modified PEEK were studied by several experimental techniques. Biological response of L929 seeded on pristine and nanostructured PEEK was evaluated in terms of cell adhesion, morphology and proliferation. XPS method showed that concentration of gold increases with thickness of gold layer created. Cell adhesion measured on the interface between plasma activated and gold coated PEEK was directly proportional to thickness of gold layer on sample.
