Abstract

Engineering practice was essentially changed by system based industrial products and cyber physical systems during the past decade. Advanced industrial products are increasingly becoming cyber-physical systems. In leading industries, products are developed, and lifecycle engineered in appropriately extended modeling environment. Virtually executed complex models of products are converted into real world cyber physical systems using cyber physical production systems in accordance with the paradigm Industry-4.0. The Laboratory of Intelligent Engineering Systems has published research results in this leading virtual engineering area for fourteen years. In this paper, recent cyber physical system related research results are introduced including model based engineering of cyber physical system, virtual engineering for system based products, integration of intellectual property in engineering model, and contexts for cooperation between engineering modeling and cyber physical systems. Finally, this paper emphasizes that recent achievements in virtual engineering give new chance for long-wished integration of industrial, research, and higher education processes.
