Abstract

In the evaluation of internal-combustion engine knocking, the overall knocking level, such as no problem, slight, and obvious, is evaluated by a skilled person using auditory sense based on the knocking frequency of how often it occurs and the degree of knocking. In this study, we developed a method to detect knocking based on both the steep rise using derivatives and the level of non-stationary specific loudness of radiated sound. Additionally, by using a microphone array, we aimed to improve the detection accuracy that is dependent on the location of knocking and microphone position. Through experimental verification, we will compare the knocking level, which is the result of auditory evaluation by skilled listeners, with the knocking detection frequency of this method to validate the detection accuracy.
