Abstract

A conducted-susceptibility test procedure based on Bulk Current Injection (BCI) is designed to reproduce similar levels of interference occurring in a standard radiated-susceptibility (RS) test setup for aerospace equipment involving shielded cables. The correlation between test levels is accounted for by an engineering margin called overtesting (OT), which quantifies the excess of interference injected by BCI over RS. Owing to the lack of knowledge about the common-mode impedance of equipment, as well as other setup-related uncertainties, OT turns out to be a random variable, here characterized through its cumulative distribution function. The proposed approach is experimentally validated and complements results developed earlier for unshielded cables. As far as achievement of correlation between BCI and RS tests is concerned, distinctive features of shielded (vs unshielded) cables are shown and discussed.
