Abstract

Paget’s disease is a chronic condition characterized by excessive and abnormal bone remodeling. Of unknown cause, it’s known that genetic and viral factors are involved in its etiology. Often diagnosed by chance when performing an X-ray for another reason, the most common symptoms are pain and those produced by osteo-articular, neurological and cardiological complications, less than 1% malignant transformation. Determination of alkaline phosphatase, radiography and total body scintigraphy are usually sufficient for diagnosis. The therapeutic goal, based on nitrogenous bisphosphonates, includes relieving pain, normalizing alkaline phosphatase, prolonging remission, healing osteolytic lesions, restoring normal lamellar bone, and preventing recurrence.
