Abstract

In this paper, we propose the energy efficient routing protocol adapted to mobile sensors for multiple sinks in wireless sensor networks. In the proposed protocol, a forwarding sensor node exchanges the location information of neighboring sensor nodes at only the forwarding node sending data in order to reduce energy consumption due to HELLO messages. Therefore, a forwarding sensor node does not periodically exchange HELLO messages. In addition, the proposed protocol does not construct multicast routes between a source and each sink. Therefore, a forwarding node decides a next hop node which the energy consumption between a source and each sink is minimum, and then sends data packets to the next hop node. That is, the selection of a next hop node and the data transmission are repeated, and then the data is sent to multiple sinks. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol can reduce the energy consumption compared with other energy efficient routing protocols in sensor networks.
