Abstract

We all know that Flat breads are very popular, especially in those parts of the world where bread constitutes a major source of dietary protein and calories. In India, wheat is a daily staple, consumed in different forms. With urbanization and industrialization, there is a rise in the demand for ready-to-eat and easy-to-make products, but making the equipment available at a reasonable cost, energy efficient and making it work under optimal conditions was a big task. In this paper we are designing a dough rolling machine which is energy efficient, does not consume much power and comprises a simple mechanical process. It is lightweight and is available for an affordable cost. Sheeting is usually carried out by a pair of sheeting rolls with rotation motion. A portable and manually operated, energy-efficient dough rolling machine was designed and fabricated. The analysis of the experimental results revealed that the machine consistently provided the necessary products by consuming a low amount of power. The proposed equipment not only allows to efficiently obtain a product but also allows us to define the optimal shape. Thus, the main aim of this paper is to reduce the power consumed by the equipment and also the speed at which the rolling process is done. Power efficiency helps to save on electrical costs and is therefore a necessary consideration to take. We use an efficient SMPC supply and a simple gear setup in order to minimise losses and hence raise efficiency. While there are many dough sheeters in the market, ours is targeted towards usage in ordinary homes rather than in mess halls or cafeterias, hence the simple but efficient design.
