Abstract

Study of the interaction of simple nuclear excitations, for example, single-quasi-particle or single-phonon states, with states of a more complicated nature (quasiparticle plus phonon, two-phonon, etc.) is needed for the quantitative description of the width of nuclear resonances and to explain the suppression of the strength of spin-isospin transitions. The author proposes a method of calculating the energy-weighted moments of the strength function S/sup k/ for a fragmentation problem that can be solved in the framework of the quasiparticle-phonon nuclear model.
