Abstract

1. The creep equation expressed in energy terms (7) enables us to describe the creep process in a nonstrengthening material (or one undergoing only slight strengthening, such as the alloy OT-4 at 400 °C) from the onset of creep up to the point of rupture under both steady-state and transient temperature/force conditions. 2. A creep calculation based on Eq. (7) combines a description of the creep process with the determination of the time-to-failure; thus the use of this equation when designing structural units subject to creep conditions enables us to combine the determination of the stress/strained state in the material with that of the creep life of the structure.
