Abstract
Quenching of I2 (B3Π0u+, v′=25) by I(2P3/2) atoms has been measured in a fluorescence experiment at elevated temperatures. The I2*–I quenching cross section is (120±45) Å2. This very large cross section is attributed to the formation of long-lived I3 collision complexes. Vibrational relaxation of I2* by I atoms is not observed.
