Abstract
The effect of a high density of excited donor (pyrene) molecules on the probability of excitation energy transfer has been studied. In solutions with a high concentration of donor molecules, the probability of energy transfer is measurably affected by a high excitation energy. These studies are valuable in understanding the processes taking place along an α-track. Since a high density of excited donor molecules and a rise in temperature are produced with few attendant quenching radicals and damaged molecules, an environment similar to but simpler than along an α-track is simulated.
