Abstract
The observation of the effect of energy transfer from higher triplet states by the decrease in phosphorescence of aromatic compounds dissolved in transparent glassy solvents under excitation of solute molecules in their triplet-triplet absorption is reported. The quantum efficiency of the energy transfer was shown to increase with the energy gap between the excited state T* and the lowest triplet state T1 of the solute and with the multiple chemical bonds of the solvent molecules. The quantum efficiency for transfer from higher triplet states has a value of 0.01–0.2.
