Abstract

The energy transfer process in the systems (Yb, Ho) and (Yb, Tm) where Yb 3+ is the donor ion and Ho 3+ or Tm 3+ are the acceptor ones, has been studied. The donor luminescence decays as a function of donor and acceptor concentrations have been analyzed using the kinetic models developed for direct energy transfer and excitation diffusion. In samples with 0.1 mol% and Yb 3+ ions, energy migration is negligible. The donor-acceptor and donor-donor transfer parameters are obtained and they are compared with those obtained from spectroscopic data.
