Abstract
Illustrations are given of the importance of resonant magnetic dipole-magnetic dipole, and resonant electric quadrupole-electric quadrupole interactions in the three-dimensional energy migration and quenching of luminescence of lanthanide ions, Ln 3+, in Cs 2NaLnCl 6. Calculations of resonant electronic energy transfer rates are in agreement with experimental results, but the calculated nonresonant transfer rates are very slow.
