Abstract
Energy transfer between Ce 3+ and Tb 3+ in rare earth pentaphosphates was studied versus Ce 3+ concentration and temperature. Within this chain-type structure the energy diffusion is very sensitive to atomic substitution and this process is operating via the LnOPOLn links. The energy transfer efficiency is strongly influenced by the effect of temperature on the overlap between the Ce 3+ and Tb 3+ bands.
