Abstract

Energy transfer between Ce 3+ and Tb 3+ in rare earth pentaphosphates was studied versus Ce 3+ concentration and temperature. Within this chain-type structure the energy diffusion is very sensitive to atomic substitution and this process is operating via the LnOPOLn links. The energy transfer efficiency is strongly influenced by the effect of temperature on the overlap between the Ce 3+ and Tb 3+ bands.
