Abstract

It is demonstrated that the local-potential alpha-cluster model for 40Ca describes the basic properties of the low-lying positive-parity rotational band and the negative-parity band. The properties of the low-lying negative-parity band are interpreted in the framework of a one-dimensional model with octupole-vibration with axial symmetry. This simple model allows us to describe the spin dependence of the energy-parity splitting for the yrast band in 40Ca. A good agreement with experimental data is observed.
