Abstract

Several balloon observations have been carried out to determine the energy spectrum of primary electrons in the range 0.5–30 GeV. The detectors are standardized for mutual data comparison and calibrated in accelerator beams. The present report summarizes the results of the flights from Kiruna, Sweden, and from De Bilt, Netherlands, carried out in 1965 and 1966. The energy spectrum of primary electrons obtained at solar minimum time clearly shows a bend around 2–3 GeV. Between 3 and 30 GeV this spectrum is expressed by[Formula: see text]
